Creating & Using Matter Templates
Our How to... series gives practical tips and step by step guides on how to do lots of different things in Actionstep. We develop these based on the queries raised by customers with our support team.
Our latest How to... looks at creating and using Matter Templates
- Why create matter templates?
- Where to go in the system to create matter templates
- What are my options?
- How it can help your law firm?
Ok, lets dig in...
1. First, why should I know how to do this?
2. Where do I start in Actionstep?
Navigate to Matters -> Create Matter -> Change 'Status' to 'Template'
See image below:
3. Using Matter Templates
As soon as you change the status of a matter to a 'template', the next time you go to create a matter, you can select that template from the drop-down that appears at the top of the screen. The template will take any contacts you have loaded to the matter that you saved as a template and apply them to the same party types in the matter you are creating. The same will be done for the custom data on the matter that you saved as a template.
Using Matter Templates creates consistent processes for how you approach and manage different types of matters - giving your team a playbook and making sure clients get a consistent experience and know what to expect from working with your firm. Using Matter Templates also saves time as the "thinking" has already been done as to how to manage the matter. For reporting & governance you can also view in list form all the matters using the same template.
